The opening of enhanced bike lanes on 1st and Blaisdell Avenues in South Minneapolis on Sunday, Oct. 9, attracted many families from the Kingfield and surrounding neighborhoods.

Visitors had a chance to enjoy complementary chair massages from Julie Mueller, owner of Mueller Therapeutic Massage and Pilates, and Denise Gagner, owner of Taking Root massage therapy.

With a resounding beat, the Sabathanite Drum Corps of Minneapolis heralded the opening of the new bike lanes.

Several dozen kids and adults participated in a group bike ride on the new bike lanes on 1st and Blaisdell Avenues.

Police officers from the Minneapolis 5th Precinct helped fit new bike helmets for kids, in a free helmet giveaway.

Painted green lanes on Blaisdell Ave. indicate areas where bicyclists and cars turning right need to be aware of one another.
